Handy Tips for Furnishing a Teenager’s Room

Have your kids outgrown their childhood furniture? Is it time to let their room grow up with them, and introduce some furniture that is more suited to a teenager’s needs? Get it right, and your kids will be happy and contented, and will be able to learn the importance of making the most of your space. With all the clutter that comes with teenagers, it’s never been more important to make sure that their needs are met, so you don’t find that your whole home becomes their territory.

Wardrobes & Storage

Being a modern teenager involves having an awful lot of stuff, so you’re going to need plenty of storage. Make sure you get a big enough wardrobe, and it could also be a good idea to find a linen chest, so that if they can’t be bothered to sort their things out, they can at least keep them off the floor and out of sight. It’s a really good idea to get the right desk, so that they can do their homework in peace, and also since kids spend more and more time socialising by computer, so you’ll want to make sure they are comfortable.

Beds

Many teenagers have outgrown their old single beds, and it’s a great way to let them know that you think of them as adults to get them a double bed of their own. Let them choose the style of the bedclothes, and you’re well on your way to creating a room that your kids will love. You may also want to pick a new bedside cabinet to go with the bed, but make sure that you get one that is easy to clean, as nobody has more midnight snacks than a growing teenager.

Decoration

When it comes to the walls, most teenagers will want to put up posters of their favourite bands, films or computer games, so make sure you don’t use busy wallpaper that will clash with any posters hung on it. Pick a simple tone, or even paint one wall a different colour, for a funky, modern look that will make their room a great hang out.

Get ‘em Involved

The best way to make sure that your kids have what they want is to include them in the process of selecting the furniture and style for their new room. Why not look online together, and pick out some pieces that will really make teenage life that little bit easier.
